About Sheila & Gabe

Gabe was born in Bogotá, Colombia and raised mostly in Mexico until moving to the U.S. at 16 years old. Sheila was just born and raised in North Carolina. Though that sounds kind of boring (and sometimes it was), she was lucky enough to have been able to travel the entire eastern U.S. seaboard and to Europe and Japan by young adulthood. Gabe served in Iraq with the U.S. Army, which wasn't that fun, but at least he got to see the Middle East and eat really good chicken sometimes (and the pictures came out great!). They met in 2000 and married in 2003 and share a love of travel and world music, jazz, and a lot of other things. After living in Mexico for a while in 2006, they moved back to the States and they currenly live in Raleigh, NC.

Gabe now works in email marketing and volunteers as a web designer. He is currently working with two non-profit organizations and a local realtor to design and implement their web sites. You can see his portfolio at www.casalett.net. Sheila just finished her undergraduate thesis on Mexican identity in film and will graduate from Meredith College in December 2011 with a BA in Spanish. She is currently applying to PhD programs and has a goal of becoming a Spanish professor specializing in Mexican cultural studies--further focus yet to be determined! Both hope to continue learning about and traveling to Hispanophone countries and writing witty yet informative snapshots of their travels.
